This project has 2 Parts:
Preparation of a Windows 10 environment for administration work in this course
Exploration of common Windows 10 tools, some of which will be used for administration
Be prepared to provide documentation and screen shots of your activities. You must get through the 2 basic activities outlined above. If something does not work the way you expected, please add those comments to your lab report.
ACTIVITIES REQUIRED:
PART 1: This part of the project requires the student to prepare a Windows 10 environment for use in various administration tasks. This requires a Windows 10 Pro or Enterprise edition. Some options for the student include:
OPTION 1 (CSET LAB): Using the CSET lab equipment on campus in room 203S: This lab has Windows 10 DVDs and removable hard drives for use in the lab. If students choose to use this approach, the instructor is in the 203S Lab on Tuesdays at 11:00am to 1:45PM for student assistance.
OPTION 2 (USING YOUR OWN COMPUTER): Using a student-owned computer:
You could use an exiting version of Windows Pro or Enterprise that the student has Administrator privileges on. OR
You could use a student-owned computer with Windows and HyperV to create a virtual machine with Windows 10 Education: To complete this approach:
1.2.1: Enable HyperV: https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/itops-talk-blog/step-by-step-enabling-hyper-v-for-use-on-windows-10/ba-p/267945
1.2.2: Obtain the .iso file for Windows 10 Education, version 22H2 from Downloads on: https://azureforeducation.microsoft.com/devtools. To use this site, you will want to log in with your QCC student user account.
1.2.3: Start HyperV. Across the top, use the Action pulldown menu:
Select New, select Virtual Machine, Read screen, then Next
Name is “Windows 10 Client”, then Next
Select the Generation 2 radio button, then Next
Set Startup Memory to “4096”, then Next
Set Connection to “Enterprise” switch, then Next
Leave the defaults and the radio button enabled to Create a virtual hard disk, Next
Choose Install an Operating System from a bootable boot image file, browse to locate that iso file in your Downloads, then Next
Connect the VM, but be sure to have focus in the window so that you can hit the spacebar at the Windows Installation prompt
1.2.4: Proceed to installing Windows 10:
Accept the defaults on the Windows Setup screen and select Next
Select the Install Now button
Enter the key code for Windows 10, then Next
Accept licensing terms
Select Custom Install: Select Disk 0 and Next
Watch the Copying and Installation of Files progress to completion
During Getting Ready select appropriate regional settings, keyboard layout, and Set up for an organization.
On the Let’s connect you to a network, select “I don’t have internet”
Then, click “Continue with limited setup”
Respond to Who’s going to use this PC? With “PC01_Admin” and Next
Set password to ‘___’ and choose security questions
Answer any additional prompts and let the install finish
